Memorial Day Winefest Kicks off the Summer

A Long Standing Tradition

This weekend was alive as the annual wine fest brought people from all over the area. Drinks, music and good company were all present as the people of the borderlands area kicked off the summer season. It is a great opportunity for people to try new wines not available locally, as well as a chance for vendors to see some new traffic!

Jesus Delrio, owner of Chromatic Void, said he saw an amazing turn out. “A lot of people from El Paso don’t come to the farmers market and get to see a lot of what I do, being as it’s kind of far. This event is a three day thing and it reaches more people in those areas, so it definitely helps me get that foot traffic.” His booth featured adorable accessories and beautiful fans to help you beat the May heat!

Wineries from outside of the Las Cruces area also benefit from the new and returning clientele, as Tony Back of Black’s Smuggler says it gives them an opportunity to showcase their wines to the locals. “We see an uptick in sales after the winefest, and a lot of our local distributors see an increase in sales and they really support us. We see most of our sales from Doña Ana and Las Cruces, but we also see a lot of people from El Paso coming to sample.”

Salma Saenz from the Luchador Food Truck says it’s the one chance out of the year that some of their clientele make the drive out to see them. “We have a lot of people coming from El Paso and even from Juarez, so they really look forward to this event. It really brings people together not only from Las Cruces, but from all over NM and I think that’s really cool. It’s also really nice to see some of our J-town homies and for them to get to try some of our local wines.”

It was an amazing event full of laughter and good times, and a welcome tradition for Las Cruces. Catch the next festival Labor day weekend if you missed out!
