For decades, the lightsaber has been a symbol of power, wielded by righteous Jedi or dastardly Sith. From the very first film, the Star Wars universe has continued to grace us with tremendous displays of swordsmanship. Many have wished to learn the arts of saber fighting and take to battle themselves. In a club, not so far away, you have the chance to become a master duelist.
“What started as a group of guys beating the crap out of each other turned into something great!”
The Sol Forge Saber Academy has been around for almost a decade, bringing joy to its members, and in recent years, giving back to the community. The group considers themselves a performing arts group, displaying the art of saber dueling while also teaching life lessons.
They are passionate for good, as many of the profits from gigs in the area are donated to the charity Child’s Play, an organization dedicated to providing hospital bound children with gaming systems and internet access to connect to the outside world. Many of the members are avid gamers, and feel as though the cause carries a message that resonates with their inner geek.
The group has also provided its members with a casual way of staying active. Some of the groups members have physical limitations, that can make it difficult to participate in certain activities, but saber dueling is a great way for them to exercise and have a blast with friends.
The Sol Forge Academy is always looking for new members to join their ranks and participate in the fun, and hope to soon have a full fledged dueling school. They want to become a greater part of the Las Cruces community, and are always open to any support they can receive.
Consider joining the cause or donating some galactic credits, but whatever you do, may the force be with you!
See the Sol Forge Saber Academy perform some sets at the Las Cruces Comic Con, August 20th & 21st!
Thanks for your blog, nice to read. Do not stop.
